What it Means to Love

"If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love" (John 15:10).

Obedience is the action of love; Jesus, in the Garden of Gethsemane perfectly demonstrated this. His action showed that He preferred His Father's desire above His. Hence, through words of great anguish, He declared, "Not my will but yours be done." Even in pain or grave darkness, love will always seek to do God's command.

We may say God's desire is for us to prosper and be in good health, which is one hundred percent true. However, God did not tell us the route He would use to get us to that goal; He asks that we keep His commandments so that we will abide in His love. The prosperity, peace, and fatness we seek are those whose souls have learned to rest in the Master regardless of the challenges.

Let us pray

Divine Lord, your will can be truly painful at times but grant us the grace to understand that it is the best path that will lead to true satisfaction, amen.
