One of the responsibilities that comes with motherhood is the naming of a child or children. There are various means employed in arriving at a name. Some persons use the name of a famous person they admire or a name from the bible. While others receive a name from a dream or a vision.
The giving of a name must never be taken casually. Some names tell of an event, a state of mind, a prophetic release or even a place of hope. In our society, based on the recorded occurrences surrounding the crucifixion of Jesus, we see no child being named Judas. That name is associated with betrayal and death.
As we grow, our birthed names are sometimes forgotten as we are given aliases. The aliases express what we have evolved into. In the Bible, we hear of persons like the blind man, the poor beggar, or the leprous (condition). We are not graced with the knowledge of their birthed names but their condition names. Are you presently identified by your birthed names or the names of your conditions?
Some persons have become limited by the names passed on to them by virtue of the community or the family they are from. This is not because of their own doings, but rather an inheritance. Some inherited names are positive while others are negative. How do you handle the inherited names? Are you managing the expectations of the positive names and, are you surrendering to the connotations of the negative names?
Is there room to create your name? To live not your birthed name, condition or inherited names but the name that truly represent who you are. Please refrain from submitting to that which you are not. The truth is, you are still learning or discovering who you are. You are coming into your truth which is God's truth concerning you.
To reside at condition, or inherited names is an act of self defeat.
I implore you to pursue your name. What is your name?
